Easter Gifts for Everyone
We love Easter at Babipur, a time to celebrate new life and enjoy family time together. There are many different ways we celebrate the coming of Spring. From the religious Christian Easter holiday, to the pagan festival of Ostara at the Spring Equinox. Many of us enjoy traditional family Easter egg hunts, and spring arts and crafts with the children. Chocolate usually plays a large part in our Easter celebrations, but this doesn’t have to be the case. Often parents are more cautious of their little ones overindulging on sweet treats, and we have some lovely alternative Easter gifts that can be enjoyed the rest of the year.
Chickens and eggs
It wouldn’t be Easter without eggs – but they don’t have to be the chocolate kind. We’ve got a great range here at Babipur, including the beautiful and lifelike wooden Erzi eggs . The realistic white or brown are perfect for the play kitchen. If you like your eggs more colourful then the rainbow eggs by Erzi will add a splash of colour to your spring displays. They also look great in respiin basket ‘nests’ or on a Grimms Celebration ring. They come in their own egg box that looks great on the toy kitchen, or shop shelf.
If it is your baby’s first Easter then the Lanco Ovo eggs would be perfect for your little one. They are made from 100% natural rubber, are non-toixic, and can be used in the bath. Little ones love their big eyes and are good for teething baby’s to chew.
The Plan Toys Chicken Nesting game is great for toddlers who love to stack and balance. The bowls have chicken faces on them and can be stacked in different ways. Make towers to be knocked down and see who can balance the egg, which is the perfect size for little hands. Young children will love hiding the egg under one of the bowls and discovering it again! As with all Plan Toys it is wonderfully sturdy and ethically made.
If your little one loves racing cars around the house, then how about the Chicken Racing Car? A stylish vintage racing car with a chicken driver, the turning front wheels gives it great manoeuvrability, turning tight bends and speeding around the track. Team up with a buddy with the Bunny Racing Car for some Spring motoring fun.
Easter Bunnies
The mythical Easter bunny has been bringing children Easter eggs since the seventeenth century, having its roots in both Pagan and Christian beliefs. Originally a hare that laid multicoloured eggs, the Easter bunny is now a symbol of the new life springing up at this time of year. We’ve got lots of bunny gifts that children will love this Easter.
Grimm’s wooden toys are lovingly made in Germany from sustainably managed European hardwoods. The Pull Along Bobbing Rabbit is a beautiful traditional toy made from alder, and will bob along behind little ones who are just learning to walk.
For your baby’s first Easter the Froogli rabbitmakes a lovely gift. Made by Frugi from organic cotton velour it’s a super soft cuddly toy that will be loved for many years to come.
The Plan Toys Hammer head Rabbit is great fun for toddlers who will enjoy bashing the carrots in the garden with the wooden rabbit mallet. Take them out, or turn it over and bash them again from the other side. Great for hand-eye coordination and for younger children exploring the trajectory schema.
Lanka Kade make a fantastic range of Fair Trade wooden animals made from sustainability managed rubber wood. The natural and brown rabbits would make a lovely treat on an Easter Egg hunt, and are perfect in small world play. Little hands will love hopping them round the garden looking for eggs, and playing with them in a garden or woodland invitation to play.
Spring Lambs
Nothing says Spring quite like newborn lambs bounding round the fields, and racing each other in the sunshine. You can’t help but smile at the sight of these joyful little animals, and children delight at their antics. If you have a budding shepherd or shepherdess, then we’ve got some lovely sheep themed toys for Easter.
The Plan Toys Lacing Sheep is a great puzzle for keeping little hands busy. Recommended for little ones from age 3 each segment is colour coordinated and matches up to the central lacing beads. It’s robust and beautifully made, and will be a jolly edition to any playroom.
For baby’s first Easter the beautiful yet simple Grimms grasping sheep teether is a tactile grasping toy. Made from lime wood and beautifully smooth, babies will enjoy exploring the different shapes with tiny hands and mouths. It’s a beautiful, natural and safe sensory toy.
We love Bajo here at Babipur! If your baby or toddler loves the nursery rhyme ‘Baa baa black sheep’ then our Bajo Black sheep is bound to be a hit. This sweet little push along sheep has a natural wood face and wheels, with soft ears and a black eco-painted body. Sustainably made by skilled crafters in Poland, Bajo make fantastic quality natural toys, and the Black Sheep will be a much loved member of the flock.
Arts and Crafts
The weather over the Easter holidays can often be a bit temperamental- we usually see our fair share of April showers! It’s a good time to stock up on some indoor craft materials ready for when rain stops play outside. We’ve got some lovely craft activities on the blog for inspiration, and read on for some of our favourite materials to use.
Egg dying is a great little activity for Easter, and the OkoNorm Egg dye kit gives some beautiful results. The eco-friendly natural food colours will give stunning shades of pinks, oranges, purples and greens with natural variations to each egg. If the eggs are boiled in the dye for 5-7 minutes they are safe and good to eat after the fun has been had.
The OkoNorm watercolours would make a fantastic creative gift for children as well as adults. The 12 colours come in a tin that is perfect for taking out and about for painting on location. Its the perfect excuse for a little quiet mindfulness in the Easter excitement.
Aaaand Chocolate!
This was mostly going to be a post about alternative Easter gifts, but we had to sneak this one in! Here at Babipur we believe strongly in Fairtrade, and this is as relevant at Easter as any time of year. When we have a chocolate treat we want to insure that the people growing and producing it are working in good conditions, being paid a living wage, and are not reliant on child labour. With Fairtrade certification you can guarantee this. There are so many fabulous chocolate Easter treats available it’s a hard job to pick out just a few of our favourites.
For a little chocolate treat, perfect for Easter egg hunts we love the Cocoa Loco little chocolate chickens. Their beautiful packaging is completely plastic free and compostable, so a great zero waste gift. These gorgeous hens are in a mixed box of creamy milk and white Fairtrade chocolate.
The Cocoa Loco hen on a nest is my favourite. A little ceramic bowl holding smooth milk and white Fairtrade chocolate eggs and a milk chocolate mother hen nesting on top.
If you are looking for the real WOW-factor then the Cocoa Loco Giant Coffee & Walnut Chocolate Egg is an incredible treat. 1.25 kg of Fairtrade creamy milk chocolate goodness, decorated with walnut halves and infused with Colombian coffee. Inside are jumbo milk chocolate buttons, and all ingredients are Fairtrade, organic, palm oil free and handmade with love. A great Easter gift to share as a family.
